Rhodococcus equi infection in a surgical wound.


Abstract

A 35-year-old male presented with abdominal pain one month after receiving a routine ventral hernia repair.

Over the course of two months, repeated wound cultures were ordered and eventually produced growth of Rhodococcus equi.

Appropriate antibacterial therapy was initiated to resolve the infection.
