Pathophysiology of the metabolic syndrome: implications for the cardiometabolic risks associated with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract

The worldwide obesity epidemic has brought to the author's attention the cardiometabolic risk factors and cardiovascular disease associated with the metabolic syndrome.

The emphasis on diagnosing and treating the individual risk factors should help in the prevention of the cardiovascular disease associated with obesity, the metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.
